“Tom was showing me some of his MMXX sketches and some things he was working on. And I was just blown away by his ideas and his need to still innovate and break out of the box and do different things and stimulate himself and be creative and challenge himself at every turn. These fruits of his transition from gallery representation to personal representation are incredibly exciting for us collectors.”

- Seth Hopkins, Executive Director of Booth Western Art Museum | Smithsonian Institution Associate

About MMXX

I have been extremely fortunate over many years to have a profession that provided a very generous income while doing something I truly enjoyed.  I’ve been a freelance illustrator, a concept and show designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, and finally a fine art painter.

As an illustrator—one is given a set of requirements that must be met in order to have a successful illustration that accomplishes the purpose of the art:  Logos,  advertisements, corporate annual reports, etc..

Concept and show design are much the same as illustration, but in more dimensional formats:  Theme parks, attractions, architectural designs, etc..  However, both illustration and concept design fill requirements set by others.

As a fine art painter, one has more freedom to decide content—up to a point.  Then potential sales often dictate subject, style, colors, size, and medium.

“Tom Gilleon is first and foremost an outstanding human being.  He’s able to think on multiple levels as he tells a story in his art.  I think those years at Disney really took his creative mind and honed his skills. Tom engages us and inspires us to appreciate the American West.  That’s an amazing accomplishment.”

Over the years—even though I considered myself extremely fortunate—I still wanted more.  What I longed for was to be as free as when I was drawing for hours in the white sand of my grandparents’ front yard.  I have longed to draw and paint what I want, how I want my paintings to look— and the subject, style, colors, size, and medium that I choose.  With the freedom to save it—or burn it.  Burning paintings is an extremely cathartic act at times!

Now I am the one to decide what is art and what isn’t.  To once again become that supremely confident, at times arrogant, at other times humble—carefree artist that I once was drawing in the sand at the age of 5.   This is my “vision”.

Now approaching my 80th year—I took this bold step in 2020.  I refer to this phase of my life in art as “2020 Vision” or “MMXX”.  I have many painting designs I want to execute under this banner.  Each will be in my personal collection and many will not be for sale.  I would like to let a few of my friends and collectors become aware here when a new work becomes available.  As I focus more attention to painting the museum quality masterworks I’ve longed to paint, I expect my production will decrease.  Here then are my first MMXX paintings with a few for sale.

“No artist in the world today—in any art movement, genre, or style—continues to innovate like Tom Gilleon.  From his career at Walt Disney Imagineering conceptualizing international theme parks that became EPCOT, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo, and Shanghai—to his recent invention of the moving digital painting—Tom Gilleon is the contemporary fine art genius of our time.  But his humble wit and humanity is what gets me.  He’s an authentic Montana rancher and artist like Charlie Russell. “

- Tom Figarelle, Executive Director of The C. M. Russell Museum

“Tom falls in that tradition of great artists who develop their own style and innovations, but in a way that engages other artists.  He shares the digital techniques he’s pioneered with other artists to tell their story their way, not simply another replica of what Tom’s doing.  Yes, Gilleon is respected as one of the most innovative and important artists, but that positive sharing is a form of genius.”
